The Role

Reporting to the Manager Strategic Planning (Greenfield) this role will lead and coordinate the integration of drainage, floodplain and waterway infrastructure requirements within Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs).   The role will project manage the PSP process, in Melbourne’s new and emerging communities and in State significant precincts undergoing urban renewal.   

Your career to date has seen you work very collaboratively with stakeholders such as engineers and with the role’s key external contact point which is the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA).  Managing the relationship with the VPA is key to the role as you meet legislative requirements and undergo the pathway to having PSPs approved and implemented.

Your Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you must have:

•  Extensive and demonstrated experience in relevant technical area of urban planning and             project management

•  Relevant tertiary qualification in urban planning

•  Driver's licence - minimal travel to site visits will be required.

Further, the successful candidate will have an excellent professional reputation amongst their current peers, in terms of communication and collaborative work. They will be required to represent Melbourne Water to a high standard with the VPA and other stakeholders such as the Department of Transport and Planning and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

We do need an employee who can roll up their sleeves and manage the work that lands on their desk, focusing on prioritising and being organised. They will project manage a diverse and complex workload, provide planning support across the entire Program with multiple projects running concurrently across all of Melbourne Water’s footprint.

This is an exciting opportunity to leave a professional legacy and influence Melbourne’s core master planning work. You will shape future communities and urban renewal precincts to improve liveability for Melbournians through design of shared pathways, waterways and protection of environmental and cultural heritage values  whilst achieving Melbourne Water’s core deliverables for waterway health, drainage, , flood protection and waterway infrastructure. At all times you will be working at the frontier of innovation and problem solving in response to climate change challenges.
