Lead a new era Managing Townsville's water infrastructure network, including Australia’s longest Dam …

As the largest regional Council in Queensland, Townsville along with many other regional centres, is expected to continue to experience economic and population growth over the coming decades. Safe, secure and reliable water supplies are an essential resource for supporting growth, not only providing for the health and wellbeing of the community, but also supporting economic development.

Townsville’s Dam and water treatment plant facilities provides critical flood mitigation and water security to the Townsville region. The Ross river dam is the longest Dam in Australia with an embankment wall of 8.4 kilometres, and a catchment of 750km2 and nearly every complexity possible in a Dam.

The Position

This newly created role will report to the General Manager Townsville Water & Waste and play a pivotal role in managing the operations of several key and critical assets such as dams, major treatment plants and applicable contracts.

With the recent decision to bring the Dam’s day to day operations in-house, this position represents a unique opportunity for an experienced Engineer to join Council and lead a team of 17 expert staff.

Essentially you will manage and operate Townsville’s complex water infrastructure.      Managing the process of engaging consultants, reviewing and managing contracts and transitioning the Council into the next wet season will be some of your immediate tasks.

About You

This role will offer you a strong balance between complexity and lifestyle. With 10-15 years’ experience since graduating you’re an engineer who loves leading people, managing stakeholders and who is renowned by their peers in the industry for having a sharp business mind and the ability to think strategically.

Whilst you don’t need to be a dam expert you will be a Civil Engineer who has gained experience in one of the consultancies, water utilities, mining project contractors and/or complex infrastructure environments, and who is keen to lead and energise a team to embrace change.

Your capacity to continue developing as a water industry leader in the years’ ahead will be enhanced by the scope of the role and the commitment of Council to your ongoing professional development. The chance to work with a talented and forward-thinking management team, diversity in your role, a great team and the ability to truly make a difference to the lives of the Townsville community will be extremely rewarding.

If we’ve piqued your interest and you would love to manage major water infrastructure projects/assets and live and work in the tropics – then call to discuss what could be a genuine, career enhancing opportunity.

A significant six figure salary package and generous relocation assistance will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Future Learning and Development opportunities are supported together with reimbursement of some professional registration fees.
