The Opportunity

As a senior member of KBR’s Water team in Sydney you will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of challenging projects that expand your skill base and keep you engaged. On any given day you could be providing condition assessment commentary on treatment plant or be part of the design team for a major infrastructure project in Australia or globally.

While the role will be preferably based in Sydney, we are open to discussing the role with anyone located regionally or in other major centres across Australia.

You will be a senior member a national group of highly regarded industry practitioners who value technical expertise and innovation. You will apply practical on-the-ground problem solving and engineering solutions and work with our clients collaboratively to deliver successful outcomes. You will have the opportunity, if desired, to lead projects and manage work-winning activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design and technical input into a wide range of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

  • Conduct asset condition investigation for a wide range of assets including water and wastewater treatment facilities as well as all associated mechanical equipment.

  • Provide technical expertise to support KBR Water projects nationally

  • Lead, and contribute effectively within, multi-disciplinary teams to support the delivery of design solutions that meet client and community expectations.

  • Maintain an interest in technological advances and applying innovation to project delivery.

  • Develop strong relationships with our clients.

  • Undertake on-site assessments and produce technical reports to a high standard, contributing to KBR’s reputation for the delivery of quality project outputs.

  • Support the preparation of proposals including methodology, study team, documentation, and fee estimate.

  • Project manage water projects. Monitor costs on an ongoing basis against the predetermined and approved budget costs

  • Coach and mentor junior engineers to help them become the best that they can be.

  • Commit to safe and sustainable delivery of our projects.

Requirements

  • Graduate or postgraduate qualifications in mechanical engineering or other relevant discipline

  • Minimum of 7 - 10 years’ experience

  • Experience in design practices for the water & wastewater industrial sectors.

  • Experience with condition assessment of treatment plant and mechanical structures.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in preparation of bid budgets, writing proposals and preparation of marketing materials

  • Demonstrated expertise in writing high level technical reports, conference papers and presentation of technical material

  • Competence in development of calculations and designs in line with scope requirements

  • Ability to integrate design solutions with other disciplines in the transport sector i.e. road design, drainage design, rail design and structural design.

  • Ability to guide more junior staff in the preparation of calculations and designs.

Other skills and attributes, while not essential, would be nice to have:

  • Awareness of business development and marketing activities would be highly regarded

  • On the pathway to obtaining CPEng.

  • Maintain curiosity and interest to continuously improve technical knowledge and skills
