About the role 

Following on from a number of major transport project wins and a strong pipeline in other markets, the Jacobs business is seeking a Principal Flood Engineer to provide strong technical leadership on our projects and mentorship to our staff.  

Based in Queensland and reporting to the Water Resources Section Leader, this role will see you working on some of the region’s largest transport projects locally but with a remit to contribute to, and provide technical leadership on, projects across the greater ANZ business and beyond.  

While transport projects will provide a steady baseload of work, the Water Resources business provides services across many other markets such as mining, oil and gas, and public utilities to name a few and so appointment in this role provides many avenues for exposure and growth. 

Key to success in this role will be proven technical surface water knowledge and leadership across major transport projects with experience delivering water resources projects across other markets.

About you 

  • Successful candidates will have a strong technical knowledge and proven experience in hydrologic and hydraulic assessments and flood/drainage design 
  • Areas of strength should include; hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and analysis, 2D (TUFLOW or similar) and/or 3D hydraulic modelling, bridge, culvert and major traverse drainage design, and bridge scour assessment 
  • Other areas of expertise may include minor transverse drainage design, longitudinal road drainage design, waterway design, CFD modelling, flood risk management, and broader flooding and water resources experience 
  • Strong task and project management skills and excellence in report writing 
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant Queensland and Australian legislation, standards and guidelines 
  • Sound market knowledge, client relationships, and ability to find, bid, win, and deliver flooding projects  
  • Ability and willingness to guide and mentor team members 
  • Successful candidates will have an inclusive mindset and enjoy collaborating across geographies as part of diverse teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established thriving business with a strong pipeline of projects. The current opportunities are predominantly based in Perth and Brisbane however, you will be joining a truly connected ANZ Water Solutions business who provide the full suite of consulting services from advisory and engineering through to operations and asset management. 

The Jacobs water business has water infrastructure and water resources capability in every major city around Australia working across a multitude of markets such as Utilities, Government, Transport, Resources, and Energy Transitioning to name a few.  

Our team is currently working on projects that have a lasting enduring positive impact on our communities such as advisory services for new water sources for agriculture, flood modelling and engineering services to enable greater connectivity, innovative space saving wastewater sludge treatment projects, and major desalination plants in response to our drying climate.
