Student Engagement Program – a program for the industry to get involved and help develop our future Water Professionals

The Student Engagement Program is an Australian Water Association and Queensland Branch initiative that aims to assist Members to complete small projects by using undergraduate or postgraduate degree students who need to undertake a project as part of their studies.

Many organisations have small projects / investigations which they never seem to get around to starting or finishing because they just don’t have the time and / or resources. These projects are small in nature but nonetheless capable of producing real beneficial outcomes for your organisation and achieving KPIs. These projects may involve process improvement, background information for project proposals, or innovation and research. These projects could be completed at little or no cost depending upon the arrangements agreed between you and the university on a project by project basis.

Universities encourage students to undertake “industry based projects” as part of their curriculum but unfortunately, in the case of the water industry, projects have not been forthcoming.

Australian Water Association Corporate Members can post projects and get applications from students who would love to undertake your projects. The Association has received support from several industry bodies for this new initiative and encourages all Universities to get involved.

Specific details of the delivery like insurances and Intellectual Property rights, if applicable, must be negotiated between the university and your organisation on a case by case basis. Apart from providing the online portal platform, the Association has no further involvement in the project’s arrangements, and management should be negotiated directly between the Student/University and your organisation.
